eCopy Connector Integrates Paper Documents With Hummingbird

eCopy Connector Integrates Paper Documents With Hummingbird Enterprise(TM) Content Management System

Integration Software Extends Capabilities of Hummingbird Platform to Capture, Track, and Manage Paper-based Information

MIAMI, FL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 02/08/2005 -- Hummingbird Summit 2005 -- eCopy, a leading provider of solutions that integrate paper documents into electronic enterprise applications, today announced the integration of eCopy ShareScan and ShareScan OP (Open Platform) with the Hummingbird Enterprise™ content management (DM) platform. The eCopy Connector for Hummingbird Enterprise DM enables organizations to easily extend the capabilities of the Hummingbird Document Management platform beyond electronic documents to paper-based information.

The Connector provides a link between an eCopy-enabled scanner or MFP (multifunction peripheral), such as a Canon imageRUNNER device, and Hummingbird Enterprise DM, making it possible to capture, track, and manage paper-based information much more efficiently. The Connector's intuitive design enables users to efficiently store documents from the MFP to the DM platform. Changes to Hummingbird profiles, permissions, or folders -- made from any client in the network -- are realized in real-time at the MFP, making document management from the copier as efficient as from the desktop.

"Typically, a large percentage of an organization's information assets originate on paper documents," said Andrew Pery, chief marketing officer and senior vice president for Hummingbird Ltd. "The eCopy Connector for Hummingbird Enterprise DM provides our customers with the capability to easily extend our secure, robust ECM system to paper-based information."

Users can enter their password to log into the Hummingbird server directly from the MFP and scan, index, and route documents to a specific repository, dynamically supporting users' individual rights, improving workgroup collaboration and operational efficiency, accelerating workflow, and enhancing business processes.

"It's important to have a record of who scanned a paper document to our Hummingbird document management system," said Jeremy Schroeder, Information Technology Manager for the accounting firm HLB Tautges Redpath, Ltd. "By configuring the eCopy Connector to require a user name and password, this enables us to identify the person at the MFP after the scan has taken place and helps us ensure that our procedures are being followed and best practices are maintained."

According to Noel O'Dwyer, eCopy director of strategic alliances, "eCopy Connectors provide robust functionality and deep integration to our application partners' enterprise systems. Our Connectors use native APIs, so the MFP becomes a client of the Hummingbird server. In this way, our software extends Hummingbird to the MFP, making it easy and intuitive for users to navigate the system."

eCopy Connectors directly link eCopy software to enterprise applications, enabling paper documents to be tightly integrated with these applications. The eCopy software, coupled with a scanner or Canon imageRUNNER MFP, enables organizations to transform paper documents into electronic documents. Using eCopy, organizations can provide open access to scanning that connects to enterprise applications, such as document management, e-mail, and fax, for low-cost, easy, instantaneous distribution and management of digital copies of paper documents.

Availability and Pricing
The eCopy Connector for Hummingbird Enterprise DM is available for both eCopy ShareScan and eCopy ShareScan OP from authorized Canon dealers or eCopy resellers. eCopy ShareScan operates on a touch panel and PC attached to a Canon imageRUNNER MFP. ShareScan OP operates on a MEAP (Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform) imageRUNNER MFP. The suggested retail price for either Connector is $1,495. Quantity discounts are available. For more information or to purchase the software, please contact an authorized Canon dealer, or call the eCopy Solution Provider line at 603-881-4450 Ext. 427.

GFI FAXmaker for Exchange/SMTP Maximizes Employee Productivity at Bordeaux Tradition

LONDON -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 02/08/2005 -- GFI's market-leading fax server, GFI FAXmaker for Exchange/SMTP, has helped a respected wine trader in the French region of Bordeaux to improve employee efficiency while simplifying the process of faxing and sending SMS (text) messages.

Loss in productivity due to manual faxing The French company, Bordeaux Tradition, used to rely on a single fax machine to transmit all its business documents. However, because this was amounting to a considerable loss in productivity, the company decided it needed a fax server solution to eliminate all the wasted employee time spent waiting at the fax machine. Bordeaux Tradition wanted a solution that would integrate with Microsoft Exchange Server. At the same time, it hoped to avoid a complex product that would require lengthy training sessions before staff could use it.

"We needed a network fax solution in order to simplify employees' work and to avoid people waiting at the fax machine. GFI FAXmaker for Exchange/SMTP was perfect," said Frédéric Bernard, General Manager at Bordeaux Tradition. "We found GFI FAXmaker to be very user-friendly, just like a printer! An added bonus is that it supports the Outlook address book where we store all our mail addresses, fax numbers, and mobile phone numbers for SMS messaging."
Saving on the cost of mobile phone calls GFI FAXmaker includes an SMS gateway which enables network users to send and receive SMS messages at their desktop. This feature proved of great business use to Bordeaux Tradition to contact clients in real time when they are not at their desks, or if urgent information needs to be communicated -- while at the same time saving on the cost of a mobile call, the other alternative in such cases. "We also use GFI FAXmaker's SMS gateway to communicate with our sales executives on the road, in order to reduce calls to mobile phones that cost a small fortune!" explained Mr. Bernard.

About GFI FAXmaker for Exchange/SMTP GFI FAXmaker for Exchange/SMTP is the leading network fax server.
